This chapter in Eric Forrester's "love" life started in similar circumstances to those which ended the last one with Lauren Fenmore - family crisis.
Seeing a helpless comatose Stephanie in a hospital bed after suffering a stroke (serves her right for sticking her nose in other people's affairs (IMO)), did something very strange to Eric. While after her 1st stroke he couldn't care less, this time he started to behave in a very bewildering way (That's how it looks like to me anyway)
Suddenly, out of the blue, Eric realized that he is still in love with Stephanie (when was he really in love with her?), and decided that she is the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with.
So, when Stephanie came out of her coma, Eric proposed to her. Of course Stephanie accepted and there, in her hospital room the wedding ceremony took place.
If you ask me, this whole quickie marriage, with Thorne as the best man and Macy as the maid of honor, was nothing but a ploy concocted by Eric to pressure Thorne into dumping Brooke and marrying Macy. Poor Eric was again manipulated and duped by Stephanie into believing that she doesn't remember anything about the Thorne-Brooke love affair and that nothing will make her happier then seeing Thorne & Macy getting married.
Now we have to wait and see how long it will take Eric to come back to his senses and realize the huge mistake he has made by marrying Stephanie ...(IMO)
Till that happy (for Eric and devastating for Stephanie) moment of disillusionment will come, Eric continues to act not as himself but as his evil twin. As such he has conceived a demonic plan to end Thorne & Brooke's love affair.
If you'll ask me it wasn't Eric's fear for Stephanie's health that stood behind his obsession with breaking up Brooke & Thorne, but plain and simple revenge. Eric was mad at Brooke for going after yet another son of his, instead of reuniting with him after he dumped Stephanie for maltreating her.
Anyway, Eric's demonic plan was a complete success. Thorne dumped Brooke and married Macy after he saw Ridge & Brooke kissing (which was what he was supposed to do according to Eric's plan).
Brooke's plan to get back at Eric by once again taking from him the creative control at Forrester Creations didn't work because Morgan de Witt, the intended new head-designer was too busy chasing Ridge and getting pregnant. ()
Eric's revenge was short lived because only after few months of marriage Thorne has asked Macy for a divorce and returned to Brooke, Leaving Eric stuck in his boring marriage to Stephanie.
This current marriage is no different from the 1st round. The minute Stephanie was well again, she returned to her old ways and continued to manipulate and scheme behind Eric's back. Eric was quite mad when he found out that Stephanie kept from him the truth about Ridge being the father of Morgan's baby. He is still unaware that his "beloved" wife has tried, with the help of her old partner in crime Bill Spencer, to kill their unborn grandchild by giving Morgan an abortion pill.
It was not a big surprise that when the reunited Thorne and Brooke asked Eric for his blessing, he went against Stephanie's wishes, gave it to them and tried to get Stephanie to do the same. Anyway Eric can't stay mad at his beloved Brooke for long no matter what she does to him.
So Brooke married Thorne and Eric is still stuck in his passionless marriage to Stephanie. A marriage so boring that Eric saving Stephanie from being drowned in her own bath tub by Morgan, is the only moment worth mentioning.
Right then, when it looked like Eric's love life (and this web page ;)) were sentenced to death from boredom, out of the very distant past appeared Don Massimo Moreno - Stephanie's ex-flame …
